’Crash’ Screens for PECC in April

Sunday 2 April 2006, by Sarah Ridout

’Crash’ caused one of the biggest upsets in the history of the Academy Awards by winning ‘Best Picture’ - the award thought to be ‘in the bag’ for ‘Brokeback Mountain’which was PECC’s first Bonus Screening.

’Crash’ is directed by writer/director Paul Haggis (who also wrote Clint Eastwood’s multi-Oscar-winner Million Dollar Baby). It features an ensemble cast including Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, Sandra Bullock and Thandie Newton (Best supporting Actress at this year’s BAFTA’s).

It sets out to address difficult issues: why middle-class whites are afraid of working-class blacks, why being racist doesn’t necessarily mean being inhuman, and how politics confuses the truth. It is set in LA.
