Miro Exhibition at St Martial, Alignan du Vent 14th May to 10th June

Hubert and Veronique de Colombe are hosting an exhibition of sixty four of the works of Joan Miro at St Martial, Alignan du Vent.

The exhibition opens on the 14th May and runs to 10th June.
It is open 10:00 - 12:30 and 16:00 - 20:00

Joan Miro was a Spanish painter, born April 20, 1893, in Barcelona, who moved to Paris in 1920 and died in 1983. His surrealist works are some of the most original of the 20th century.

The exhibition features 64 works of the artist all lithographic prints mainly produced by Mourlot in the 60s for the Galerie Maeght. Each work has a certificate of authenticity.

Prieure de Saint Martial can be found by taking the RN9 (Pezenas=Beziers road) and turning up the hill in Valros followings signs for Alignan du Vent. St Martial is in the country on the right of the road a long way before Alignan.

Jazz Concert at the Maison Verte Roujan 20th May

The Maison Verte is hosting a jazz concert featuring Serge Casero on tenor sax, Olivier Hutman on piano, Charles Belonzi on drums, and Laurent Fradelizi on counter bass on Friday, 20th May.

These four exceptional musicians have played with jazz greats ( Chet Baker etc.) and also with the stars of la chanson Francaise (Nougaro, Montand etc.)

This will be a great evening and it kicks off at 20:30 on Friday 20th May. Come one come all!

Market Drayton Pezenas 2005

May 6th 2005 sees the arrival of a delegation from Market Drayton. This year Pezenas and Market Drayton celebrate 10 years of twinning. Here are some of the events planned for this visit.

From Saturday 7th of May, there will be an exhibition in the Mediatheque de Pezenas centred on the activities and meetings that have marked the past 10 years of Jumelage.

Saturday 7th May 3:00 Chateau de Castlesec there is a garden party arranged by the Pezenas Twinning Association and 'Bienvenue au Pays'.

Live music, English tea and cakes, petanque tournament (bring your boules), badminton, childrens drawing competition, raffle etc. Chateau de Castlesec is to be found just up above Champion in Pezenas. You head up from Champion towards the Campotel and there you are. Cake makers, washer uppers etc are always more than welcome.

Modern and Contemporary Art Auction

On Saturday 17th April at 15:00, there will be an auction of modern and contemporary art at St Martial, Alignan du Vent.

St Martial opens for viewings on Saturday, 16th April, from 11:00 - 13:00 and 15:00 - 19:00, and on Sunday, 17th April, from 11:00 - 13:00.

Maitre Gerard Foure-Labrot of Toulouse is the auctioneer.
To get to St Martial take the RN9 from Pezenas in the direction of Beziers and when you come to Valros, follow the signs for Alignan du Vent. You pass St Martial on a corner, on your right, halfway to Alignan.

Spring Art Exhibition at La Maison Verte, Roujan

Spring sees Nicole Russell hosting an art exhibition at the Maison Verte, Roujan.
The exhibition runs from 9 th of April to the 25th of June. Open Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10:30 am to 5 pm.

Susan Davies-Paturel will be exhibiting her ceramic creations, Jackie Devereux her water colours, Annie Meharg her acryllics and Nicole Russell her cardboard furniture.

Roujan Fund Raising for Thailand

The Salle Polvalente at Roujan is hosting a fund raising evening for the victims of the disaster in Asia.

Remy Ventura, Les Voix de la Resclause, le All Stars Jazz Ensemble, Dixieland Jazz, Jean Francois Doan, le Duo Malines, Deltya Pan, Lea Ciari et Patrick Geoffroy, JL Bea et le P'tit Bonheur will be providing music.
There will be a sumptuous dinner, a prize draw and an auction of works of art of exceptional quality.

It will take place in the SALLE POLYVALENTE de ROUJAN Saturday 29 January at 19 hours.

FOIRE DE ROUJAN

The 19th Grande Foire de Roujan takes place on Sunday 4th April. It opens at 9:30 a.m with a parade of motor cycles through the village. Attractions include demonstrations of regional crafts, sale and sampling of local produce, country dancing, exhibitions of art and sculpture and carriage rides.

NEW GALLERY OPENS IN ROUJAN

Atelier Bonal opens its doors for the first time on May 1st with an exhibition of paintings by Faith O'Reilly.


Abstract

The gallery has been newly converted from 17th century convent in Roujan which for the past year has been the home of Lizzie Gosling and Ali Ballantyne (see Doing Their Thing for the full story).

Faith O'Reilly has lived in this region - near Lamalou les Bains - for the past 16 years. Her work is inspired by the colour, landscape and people of the Languedoc. Her abstract canvases sing with colour and light, the work is rich and textured and cries out to be touched.

The exhibition runs from May 1st to 14th and is open every afternoon from 3pm to 7pm. Atelier Bonal is at Le Couvent, 6 ave de l'Eglise, Roujan.
